Scott Capurro may be best known as Robin Williams’ make-up man in the movie Mrs. Doubtfire, but he’s also a stand-up comedian of considerable stature. Scott has a style which mixes Boys In The Band style camp and razor sharp politics into an incendiary cocktail, and he is able to improvise with great skill and confidence. He was nominated for the Perrier award in 1995, and won the Perrier best newcomer award in 1994.

Scott began performing comedy in his home town of San Francisco, where a gay stand-up comedy scene has emerged. In America, Scott is a comic in the vanguard of the currently hip gay comedy pack which includes Lea de Laria, Mark Davis and Marga Gomez. Capurro has taken his latest show, Riskgay to Edinburgh and it’s proving a great success.

He deals with hecklers on a shoot first, camp retort later basis, and anyone foolish enough to come back for more is duly plastered against the back wall. Scott blends acerbic, personal stand-up with intimate anecdotes covering his first gay experiences, picaresque encounters in San Francisco and life as a gay comedian.

“Capurro’s larger than life bouncy castle personality and engaging line in audience confrontation… render his material endlessly fresh”
Capital Gay

“Personable, tart stand-up… challenging… intriguing”
The San Francisco Examiner

“Elegant… mesmerized the house… I wanted him to go on forever… he has heart”
Kate Bornstein, The Bay Area Reporter

“His acting skills and candour take this show beyond just ringing the changes on stand-up… Seemingly without effort, he not only connects with the audience but makes friends with everyone in the cabaret bar. A Fringe giant in the making.”
The Independent
